    Matt Wins Special Recognition Award

Last night the Pet Plan awards 2008 took place in Birmingham. We are proud to announce that Matt has won the Special Recognition award for his work with the media in promoting animal health.

Voted for by members of the public, the Special Recognition Award was to honour vets who had made a special contribution to highlighting veterinary work through the media. Matt was up against some big names: Scott Miller, Steve Leonard, Joe Inglis and Bruce Fogle. Matt has become a very popular TV vet and author. Most recently, Matt's ITV series 'Zoo Vet' and 'Zoo Vet at Large' have received widespread appeal the world over.

Matt explains: “I am absolutely delighted to have received this award for my work in the media promoting the health and welfare of the UK’s animals. It is such a privilege to be a practising vet who is also able to reach so many people through TV and radio to raise awareness of the importance of responsible pet care and welfare. There are a number of exceptional vets, veterinary nurses, receptionists and practices throughout the country. This year’s nominees all deserve to be applauded for the huge contribution they make to the happiness and wellbeing of our nation’s pets.”

Matt was supported at the awards ceremony in Birmingham by several members of the staff, including Diana Stanton, Battle Flatts Clinical Manager, who won Veterinary Nurse of the year in 2003.

Not only was Matt up for an award, the practice was in the final three for Practice of the Year, another great achievement, as nominations came from members of the public. There were some shaking hands as the winners were announced. Unfortunately we were unsuccessful, but understand that it is a big achievement to come in the top three and there is always next year so watch this space!
